Makes no sense to me either, but it is interesting to watch and to imagine how this fascinated children in simpler times. Winds with attached key in bottom, off-on lever on the side. Fun for a shelf sitter and an eye-catcher. Made in authentic style for collectors and nostalgia buffs IN THE 1970'S - OVER 40 YEARS OLD -- not a children's toy. Not safe for our little ones you know.
