  • Description
  • This tin toy is not a children's toy as we define them today. Not safe you know. But definitely cute and funny. This is your chance to wax nostalgic with your child and introduce them to a toy from the past that is strictly mechanical. No batteries, no screen. A supervised social experiment. Winds up with furnished key and runs on the stored energy of a coiled spring.

    6" Tall X 3-1/2" Wide
    Painted stamped Steel
    Plastic Beak
    Hinged Flappy Fins

We know the heritage of these tin wind-up toys as we have warehoused them for about 25 years. They were produced on much older dies in China in the 1970's by The Castle in Pennsylvania. There was only one production run and sales were rather unexciting. So, being the scavengers we are, we bought all they had and have been slowly selling them out of our Olney store for all these years ( when I have a unique item, I am a very patient merchandiser –they don't eat anything as they say).

Uncomplicated Shipping Charges

Our policy for ground shipping within the continental U.S. is quite simple. Buy under $50, and shipping and handling is $9.99. Buy $50 worth or more, and shipping and handling is FREE. We understand that you may not need enough hardware to qualify for free freight, but we cannot handle a smaller order, pay shipping and handling and break even. Why not buy something from our gift department--- it's like getting a $9.99 discount!

Olney, IL. Chamber of Commerce

D. Lawless Hardware is located in the small Midwestern town of Olney, Illinois. Surrounded North, East, South and West by Interstate highways, all an hour's drive away (that's 50-60 miles out here in the sticks for you city folks who drive an hour to work), I like to joke that we are "centrally located in the middle of nowhere". We like it here and we think you would too. Olney has great schools, a junior college, a hospital, 2 industrial parks, 3 recreational parks, a good-sized lake for fishing, boating, and an abundant water supply, a small local all-weather airport, and lots of fresh air and room to breath it. Like all small towns, we appreciate all our local industries, but are always actively seeking growth. So, if you or your company is considering new site locations, please check us out.
