Finish Color Help

  • Display Color:

The picture color presented on your computer screen may not be the true color of the product. Due to variations in monitors and color settings, what you see will vary from one screen to another. And , some items simply do not photograph well due to highly reflective surfaces or other characteristics. ( as evidenced by certain driver's license photos)

  • Manufacturer's Finish Color Designation:

We have described and illustrated the most typical representation of each finish. However, even though each manufacturer attempts to hold to a standard color group, when it comes to matching one item with another, such as a knob with a pull or a back plate, it is best to choose items from the same maker and also from the same collection. The product number is also of some help here. Within the number, there is usually a suffix that represents the finish color: "AC" is antique copper, "OB" is oil rubbed bronze, etc. Look for matching suffixes to match-up items.

  • Our Collections:

Our staff has selected various knobs, pulls, and back plates that look well together and presented them together in these collections. These items are guaranteed to have matching finishes.

  • Ask Us For a Quick Response:

Our staff is very friendly and would enjoy helping you with your selection. When in doubt, call us at 618-395-3945, fax us at 618-395-3946, or click on "E-Mail us" from our menu and then choose "Help Placing an Order"

I hope this is a useful guide for you.

Below are colors to give you an idea of finish colors. But remember even these colors may vary some from each manufacture. We do our best to represent each knob and pull that you will receive.

Brass Plated and Bright Brass Plated:

Electroplated finish over a base metal. Bright and shiny like chrome, only yellowish gold, even brighter and shinier than real brass. Some vendors just call this "brass", but it is not, only solid brass is really brass.

Polished Brass

Antique Brass:

Electroplated finish over base metal. Aged look. Dark bronze-like appearance with brass showing through a black background. As if one painted the piece black, and then buffed the paint off the highlights leaving the black in all the crevices to show relief.

Solid Brass:

Yellow brass color, richer than brass plated. Most is hand polished to a pleasant luster. If coated with a clear finish, luster is higher. Some brass is left unfinished so that it may be aged (oxidized to a bronze-like color) by brass aging solution. If solid brass is left unfinished, unwaxed, or un-aged, it will fingerprint, tarnish and require cleaning.

Chrome

Matte:
Nickel, Chrome

Also known as satin. The finish is buffed with fine abrasives to create a satin (eggshell, if you will) silver or pewter- like finish. Matches well with stainless steel appliances and natural pewter.
Our matte and satin finishes are displayed together.

Matte Chrome

Satin Nickel:
Finish similar to mat chrome but with very slight soft gold tone, so subtle that you will not notice unless you put it next to a "whiter" metal. Color also matches some stainless steel, as some stainless is not as "white" as others. About the color of the five cent piece in your pocket.

Pewter, Brushed Satin Pewter, Antique Pewter:

All these finishes are similar in that they all use an electroplated pewter coating over a base metal with varying amounts of flat black for highlight. The overall appearance is the result of the process. The base coat is the color of, well, pewter - a light metallic grayish color such as lead or tarnished sterling silver. Then, flat black is applied, and then buffed off again to reveal varying amounts of the pewter. The pattern of the knob or pull often determines the amount of pewter that shows through, as the raised parts are polished, leaving the black in the crevices.

Oil Rubbed Bronze finishes vary in color depth and hue. You can find them light (bronze showing through) to a medium dark with just a few high lights visible. Then there is the dark oil bronze that you will find only a very few high lights in. All have an elegant look, and each has a situation where they will look fabulous.
Use your own judgement as to which will work best you.
